I have grown cotton in my garden in Iowa for several years. I am now in NY state and again grew cotton. It grew beatifully but I got it started too late to get any ripe bolls. I hope that some were far enough along that the seeds will be good for next year. I have grown brown, green and white. I also believe that I have some sea Island cotton which grew the best. It also had the largest bolls when cold weather finally hit. I have plants of all my colors in pots that I hope will survive until next spring. I have carded the cotton after hand ginning. I have a Patrick Green super card which does a beautiful job carding. I pull the carded cotton from the drum through a diz to make roving. I have to grip the cotton very closely to the diz as the fibers are much shorter than wool!!!! I have also spun the cotton directly from the seed. I would like to start a group of cotton growers/spinners. Could anyone tell me how to do that? Thanks in advance.
I was given some seeds at SOAR and have been thinking about trying to grow them this next year. I live in Idaho so I will have to get them started indoors and most likely bring them in before they are all the way open. So I would be interested in hearing about what everyone else does, as I can't grown much of anything.
