    Heather, You've discovered that silk is slippery. You may find that spinning from the fold may be easier to control the silk. Yes, use bobbins with the fastest ratio possible. Do what Marydeerhaven suggests. One more thing may help. You will probably need to lace your thread. What I mean is lace...
