  • Re: Plying recommendations, please.

I am a beginner spinner - learning everything from fantastic people on youtube and here. Including how to ply. My latest adventure is Navajo plying. If I was better at maintaining a constant thread diameter (am I in stage 2 of four?) I am sure my plying would look better. I understand that I need more...

  • Greetings from Baltimore

Hello all, nice to meet you. I'm currently a married, 29 year old woman from Baltimore, Maryland. I've been crocheting since I was quite young. I was taught by my grandmother. I've just recently fueled my passion even further by learning to spin through some friends, from reeactments (Civil...

  • Re: Need help with spinning bulky yarn

OK, Carol, Lets look at what information you gave me. You are using a top-whorl. That won't make any difference, except depending on the weight (mass) of the spindle. The lighter the spindle, the finer the thread you'll spin. You can Velcro some quarters or washers on for more mass; or you can...

  • Leftover singles

I spun two lovely singles and began plying. As I got closer and closer to the end I realized that I was going to have a fair amount left of just one single. What do you do to prevent this or what do you do with the left over single?

  • Roving and yardage

I know this is say hello but I'm not sure where to post this question. If I purchase 4 oz of roving how many yards can I expect to spin? I find it so difficult purchasing roving than not having enough yarn to make a projct. Randi

  • Hello from Montana

I have been knitting since I was a kid, and spinning since the early 80's. For about 20 years I spun almost every piece of yarn that I knit. Now I do more dying and knitting than anything else, but I bought some dyed fiber at Stitches West a couple weeks ago, every bit of that is spun up, and I am...

  • Spinning from pre-dyed roving - Splitting, drafting and plying questions

Well, I hope this isn't too big a chunk to bite off for one post, but I finally did my first spinning yesterday! I first split my pound of Corriedale Cross roving into 2 halves, putting one half into a bag where the cats wouldn't make a bed out of it. I continued splitting the 2nd half -- which...
