I finished with some of my handspun 2-ply silk. I bought the roving from The Yarn and Fiber Shop in Bozeman, MT.

The pattern is fairly easy - every other row increase 6 stitches. I marked the one side and the increase spaces.

The colors do blend nicely enough. I could have spun mine a bit
thicker, but such is life. Now to get it away from my 4 year old. She
won’t wear anything I make her, but snags everything I make for myself.

Speaking of snags, I know silk will snag easily. If it becomes a bother, I’ll frog it and recycle it into something else.

"EWEnique" is a double treadle spinning wheel built in 2009. She is made mostly of maple and birch plywood and covered in part with tanned, sheered fleece. Her tail wags happily when she is spinning fiber. The fiber goes into one ear and comes out as yarn on a bobbin. The flyer ratio is fixed at 7:1. A small window in her rump permits the curious to view her internal system of pulleys, levers, cams, flywheels and bearings. She is owned by Franny Junge (Anchorage, Alaska) and was designed and constructed by David Junge. Franny's daughter, Amy Olmstead, did the painting.

It's your gateway into the vast world of
yarn design. Informed and skillful plying can make all the difference
between just another yarn and just the yarn you want. In this engaging
video, master spinner Judith MacKenzie presents not just the basics —
how to hold your hands, where to put your kate — but an extensive
adventure into the endless possibilities.

You'll learn:
- How
to make your equipment work for you, from yarn storage devices to pulley
choices to optimum tensioning
- Different classes of yarn structure
and how they affect the textiles you make from them
- How to best
organize your hands (the best tools of all!)
- How to avoid errors —
and how to correct them when you need to
- How plying errors
evolve into fascinating art yarns
- How to use your wheel to
customize and enhance commercial yarns
- And several dozen
additional intriguing side trips that will spur your creativity and make
you a better spinner.
- And you'll have fun learning!

The Wild Rose Traveller spinning wheel

I was inspired by our native wild rose, or 'dogrose', and by Tiffany's
Dogwood Tiffany lamp. The wild rose is a beautiful flower that appears
on our hedges in the summer. I always thought that the American 'dogwood' and our dogrose were one
and the same. On Tiffany's Dogwood lamp, the flowers look remarkably
like our wild rose. But apparently they're unrelated. My spinning wheel design is based on this lamp, but I've adapted the
design slightly so that it more closely resembles our wild rose. More about the Wild Rose Traveller spinning wheel

Mughetti Back

Back of Shawl

Mughetti dry

Dry Shawl

Hand spun shawl

This is my Icelandic Shawl from KD's free pattern download. I first saw this shawl several years ago and wanted to be able to spin well enough to be able to make this shawl. The colours are all natural colours from Merino fleece from Dell Mitchell's flock from Stanthorpe, Queensland, Australia. They were spun using an Ashford Traditional wheel. I did have to pre-wash the various fleeces prior to sorting the colours in order to get the variation I required.
