I am the author of Inspired to Quilt, Creative Experiments in Art Quilt Imagery, published by Interweave Press. I have written several articles for Quilting Arts, Cloth, Paper, Scissors, Stitch among others. My work was juried into Quilt National in '07, and can be seen in galleries around the country.
I love the cloth as artistic medium, dye it, collage, sew, bead and embroider it; ain't nothing can't be done with it. And, although I am new to spinning and knitting, I love it. Within the last three months, I have been given an Ashford Traditional Single Treadle (which needed love and care) and I traded artwork for an Ashford Joy Double Treadle, the wheel I learned to spin on and love so much. So I am not quite sure what I am doing with spinning and knitting yet, but I am adventuring with it.
I like to be called Melly, Mells, MellyMells or Melanie (I really don't like being called Mel, though), all will make me sit quickly in front of my dinner plate! I have two cats, Arrow and Monk, and a husband whom I love. Birds are my passion, I collect feathers, love painting them and love to watch them in the wilds.
