A former clothing and costume designer, Galina Khmeleva once spent almost two months’ pay for a hand-knit Orenburg lace shawl. Since then, she has become a world-renowned expert on the techniques of Orenburg spinning and weaving. Galina has published two books, created more than 50 patterns, and teaches heirloom lace knitting techniques around the world.

This collection includes Galina's video—a complete lesson on how to ply—plus an article first featured in the Fall 2015 issue of Spin Off, where Galina describes how and why Orenburg spinners ply singles spun from short, fine fibers such as cashmere, qiviuk, yak, camel, or bison with long, strong silk.

Like learning any new skill, practice is essential. Galina’s thorough how-to video combined with her invaluable instructional article are here to help you on your spinning journey.
