While I was writing my first letter as the Spin Off editor, I couldn't help but look back at previous editors’ first issues of the magazine. I found those editors’ letters inspiring, and I was struck by the abundance of interesting and useful articles, tutorials, and projects created by Spin Off contributors in each of those issues—and the many issues in between.

In previous editor Kate Larson’s first issue as Spin Off editor (Winter 2019), I found some familiar voices that I’m thrilled to work with in this issue—Betsy Alspach, Brian McCarthy, and Stefanie Johnson. And in editorial director Anne Merrow’s first issue (Summer 2014), who should I find but the inimitable Linda Ligon? Both continue to inspire our textile explorations as Long Thread Media cofounders.

I’ve had the chance to meet some of this issue’s contributors in person, such as Tom Knisely, who always has something delightful to share, and Ruth Baldwin, whom you’ll meet in this issue’s Makers Space. I know other authors, like Andrea Mowry and Liz Hammond-Kaarremaa, through their incredible work that they generously agreed to share here.

You could say that it’s a small world—but it’s also a lovely one. Spinners are truly the most generous and interesting people. I’m so honored to count myself as one of you.

Happy spinning,
Pamela
