Did you know that the Washington D.C. area is a hotbed of spinnerly talent? Starting as a celebration of local fiber artists, the Homespun Yarn Party is now gearing up for its eighth annual event. The party is held in Savage, Maryland, halfway between Baltimore and the metropolitan D.C. area. This year's event on March 22nd will include thirty-two vendors and (weather permitting) space to hang out and spin, knit, or crochet.
Run entirely by volunteers, the event has free admission and urges visitors to pick up a new skill. Demonstrations and free lessons in beginning spinning, knitting, and crochet will be available, growing this already brimming community. Join the party!

Dragonfly Fibers
Kate Chiocchio of Dragonfly Fibers has been with the HYP since its beginnings in 2008. Kate's fiber life began in 2007 and had evolved Dragonfly Fibers within just a few years. She and Team Dragonfly produce a wide range of yarns and vibrant combed tops that they sell through their online shop and at fiber events around the region.
Kate says, "I love the Homespun Yarn Party. I have been involved since that first conversation on Ravelry among us local yarnies about planning an event where we could all get together and hang out. Selling things was almost an afterthought at first. My daughter, now seventeen, has been coming every year and loves to work our tiny little booth. It really feels like a party where you know everyone, customers, organizers, volunteers, and fellow business owners alike. We scheduled it for March so we fiber-loving folks could have a bright spot to look forward to near the end of winter (especially appropriate this year!) The same folks come back every year and share what they've made with our yarn and roving and celebrate being together with fiber. It's a fast, happy, busy afternoon."
