In knitting and crochet, planned pooling is where a skein of yarn is space-dyed in a specific pattern so that when you work a particular number of stitches, the colors “pool” together and create a pattern—magical!

Andrea Deck used this method to create a weaving pattern based on a beautiful sunset photo. But instead of using space-dyed yarn, she decided to spin a yarn for the weft that would magically change colors as she wove. Learn how she did it and get weaving instructions to try it yourself with this Subscriber-only download!

About: Andrea Deck is a fiber artist, community builder, and Washington, DC, local. She is lucky to be able to pursue all of her fiber whims—from dyeing, weaving, spinning, and knitting to researching her traditional craft roots—and she looks forward to continuing to learn and grow with the fiber community. You can find her work in places such as Spin Off, Handwoven, Easy Weaving with Little Looms, and PLY Magazine.
