The Redwood Guild of Fiber Artists has been active in the Sonoma County, California, area since 1949. The guild website features an impressive list of monthly speakers and topics. In April, Nadine Curtis, founder of Be Sweet, spoke to the group. Nadine created Be Sweet in 2003 while living in Cape Town, South Africa, to "support innovative craft that can be made by those less fortunate." Be Sweet now carries a wide range of handspun and commercial yarns, handmade bags, and more. Nadine works with several job-creation groups in South Africa, and there are currently over two hundred crafters, primarily from the Xhosa Tribe, creating products for Be Sweet. Check out the Artisans in Action video to see the spinners at work.
