The first time I saw someone working on a tablet-woven band, I had to know more. What were those cards doing? And how on earth did they keep track of all those complicated twists and turns? My first attempts were lackluster, but I’ve been seeing lots of alluring tablet-woven bands lately, and had to try it again. Here’s what I wish I’d known when I was getting started!

One of the things that makes tablet weaving so accessible is that you really don’t need much equipment—just some cards, which you can even make yourself. I started with a larger set of pre-made tablet weaving cards but found them cumbersome. The large size didn’t fit easily in my hands, making turning the cards and keeping them in the right position difficult.
