Have you been eyeing a drumcarder, but you’re not sure about the learning curve? Emily Wohlscheid is the fiber and jewelry artist behind Bricolage Studios, and she’s an expert at both drumcarding and teaching others how to do it. Watch as she shows you how to blend your very first batt on the drumcarder—you’ll be amazed at how easy and fun it is!
Blending on the drumcarder really is that simple, but here are a few important takeaways:
1. Safety First
Always be sure to clamp your drumcarder to an appropriate surface and keep your hands away from sharp parts. As is the case when working with wool and sharp spinning tools, it’s a good idea to make sure your tetanus shot is up to date.
2. Slow and Steady
By working slowly and in thin layers, you both create a higher quality fiber-prep and you’re gentler on your drumcarder. Drumcarders can be a significant investment, but they last a very long time when maintained and used correctly.
3. Have Fun and Get Creative!
