After a decade of spinning-focused travels, teaching, and writing, I’m off on a new adventure as editor of Spin Off magazine. I’m bursting with fibery ideas for us to explore!

Some of my earliest memories are of the sheep and lambs that lived on my family’s farm, and I’ve been building my fiber life since then. My passion for sheep led me to a degree in soil science, travels abroad, and a year in an unplumbed Vermont cabin, and then it called me to return to my family’s six-generation farm in Indiana.

Kate with Deb Menz at SOAR (Spin Off Autumn Retreat) 2006 in Lake Tahoe. Kate received a scholarship that year and began contributing to Spin Off magazine soon after.

In the last ten years, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to teach handspinning workshops all across the country and then return after each journey to my flock and family in the Midwest. I’ve met so many amazing, creative, thoughtful spinners in my teaching travels that I hope to introduce to you. Spin Off magazine will allow me to bring my experiences, energies, and network of worldwide fiber folks to you, dear spinner.

In more than ten years of working with editors Amy Clarke Moore and Anne Merrow at Interweave, I’ve written articles and patterns, made videos, published a book, written countless blog posts, taught at SOAR and Interweave Yarn Fest, and more. I’ve learned so much from these amazing women and feel honored to carry the wooly torch.
